A fascinating development in India showcases how smallholder chilli farmers are leveraging digital technology and Artificial Intelligence to overcome financial hardships and weather-induced challenges. The WEF-supported AI4AI (Artificial Intelligence for Agricultural Innovation) initiative, codenamed Saagu Baagu (translated literally as “crops and gardens”), employs bot advisory, soil testing technologies, and a digital platform to connect buyers and sellers. This innovative approach has significantly boosted farmers’ net income and achieved sustainability and efficiency goals. Inspired by these promising results, the Indian state government of Telangana is expanding the project to include more farmers across several districts.
